YOUR ROUTE TO THE TRACK
01
Your computerTrackMania + official OpenVPN
Personal, encrypted connection
02
Your server's VPN gatewayAccess arranged by the server owner
Private in-game join address
03
Your usual game serverSame maps. Same community.
Your regular Internet traffic stays outside a Slikz VPN connection.
01 / PERSONAL
One player. One profile.
Each person needs a separate .ovpn file. Reusing one file on two computers can disconnect the first player.
02 / DIRECT
Use the VPN join address.
The normal server list may still be empty. Your server owner supplies a private address for the in-game Explorer.
03 / OWNER ENABLED
The server needs a gateway.
This works with participating servers. A website or a VPN app alone cannot enable access to an arbitrary server.
FIND YOUR STARTING POINT
Choose your server's guide.
Currently listed: Slikz VPN destinations. Other hosts can share their own guide link below.
This directory is a published snapshot, not a live server-status check. Selecting a guide does not grant access: ask that server's owner for your own profile. Independent operators can use the guide link generator.
LET'S DO THIS, ONE STEP AT A TIME
From desktop to starting line.
No command line. No game-password sharing. Keep this page open while you set up.
LET'S FIND THE MISSING PIECE
Something isn't working?
Pick what you see. Follow the checks in order.
OpenVPN is connected, but TrackMania says “Can't join server”
Ask the owner whether the game server is running. A connected VPN does not prove that it is.
Check the join address against the one supplied with your profile. An owner profile only permits its owner's servers; a guest profile permits one server.
Disconnect other VPN profiles temporarily, then reconnect only this server's profile. Reconnect after the owner has added access.
Make sure no one else is using your .ovpn file. Ask for a separate guest profile for each person.
Close TrackMania completely. Connect OpenVPN first, reopen the game, then use the in-game Explorer address.
If it still fails, run the read-only connection checks below and send the results to the owner.
Do not disable your firewall or antivirus as a general fix. Do not send your .ovpn file to public support channels.
I do not have an .ovpn file
The server owner must issue a personal profile. Installing OpenVPN by itself does not grant server access.
Own a Slikz server? Open VPN Access → find your server → Guest profiles → enter your friend's name → Create & download .ovpn.
It connects, then disconnects or keeps reconnecting
First check that every player has a different profile. A second connection with the same certificate can replace the first. Also check the Internet connection, profile expiry, revocation, and whether the owner has disabled the gateway.
OpenVPN GUI: right-click its tray icon → your profile → View Log. Share the last error lines with the owner; never share certificate or private-key blocks.
The LAN list is empty / a join link opens a different server
An empty LAN list does not necessarily mean the VPN failed. Use the private tmtp://#join=… address in TrackMania's own Explorer.
Do not substitute the public IP or an old port. Do not rely on clicking a browser link: the registered game handler may open the wrong game or ignore the address. Start the game normally and paste the full address inside it.
OpenVPN will not connect / TLS timeout / authentication error
Confirm you imported the original .ovpn file, not a .txt file or a website. Ask the owner whether it has expired, been revoked or replaced after a server move.
A TLS timeout can also mean the gateway's UDP port is blocked or unreachable. Try another trusted network if available and send the log error to the owner. This website cannot test the VPN tunnel from inside your computer.
I use ModLoader / another OpenVPN app / macOS or Linux
Connect your VPN before opening TrackMania. You can launch TrackMania through ModLoader as usual; no special launch arguments are needed for these steps.
The walkthrough below covers Windows. OpenVPN Connect can import compatible .ovpn profiles on other supported platforms. Your TrackMania installation or compatibility layer must also work on that platform. Ask the owner for help if a third-party profile needs unsupported options.
READ-ONLY · NOTHING TO INSTALL
Give the owner a useful error report.
Enter the private VPN join address, then copy these checks into Windows PowerShell. They inspect the selected route and test only the game TCP port. No administrator access is required. A successful TCP test does not verify gameplay or UDP traffic.
FOR THE PEOPLE RUNNING THE SERVER
Bring your community back together.
Slikz customer or independent host? There is a setup path for both.
SLIKZ-HOSTED SERVERS
Already in the panel?
Open VPN Access and find the intended server.
Open Guest profiles. Create one profile for each player, with a name and an expiry.
Send that player the downloaded .ovpn file privately.
Choose Copy join instructions and send those too.
Revoke a lost or unused profile. Downloading the same profile again does not create another player identity.
Your hosting provider or Linux administrator must install a VPN gateway with access to the real game ports. This page works with personal OpenVPN profiles from other operators too.
Install an OpenVPN server on a host that can reach the game server.
Give every player a unique certificate and VPN address.
Route only the required game destination and allow its actual TCP/UDP ports. Keep SSH, RPC and database ports inaccessible to players.
Test a real player connection and the correct server identity. Test a second player at the same time.
Issue personal profiles, publish the correct private join address, and support expiry and revocation.
Make a shareable guide link with your server's name and private join address. It contains no profile or credentials. Send the personal .ovpn file separately.
A SMALL CHECK BEFORE YOU GO
Connected? Great. Now check the right server.
A successful VPN connection is the first step. The real finish line is joining your usual server in-game.
